Description:

This meeting is a continuation of previous annual workshops focusing on the interplay between commutative algebra (particularly, resolutions and inverse systems) and algebraic combinatorics (the representation theory of symmetric groups). Links to the previous workshops can be found here .

Talks will run from Friday, January 22 through Sunday, January 24 2010, inclusive.

All talks will be in the Mathematics Department, Jeffrey Hall, which is building number 42 on the campus map.

PARKING: Visitors may park in the underground parking garage at University Avenue and Stuart Street. The entrance to the garage is on Stuart Street immediately to the east of University Avenue.

Hotels:

  • Belvedere Hotel
  • A lovely place, an old home that has been converted into a hotel. Very pretty and the closest place one can find to campus. Book by Dec. 17. (They go on holidays from Dec. 17 - Jan. 4). Say you are with the conference. Toll free number: 1-800-559-0584. The price of the rooms is: single occupancy $99.00/night; double occupancy $119.00/night.

  • The Rest Inn (686 Princess Street)
  • This will be the most economical and the most modest accommodation. Their Toll Free number is : 1-800-267-3959. The rooms with 2 beds cost $65.00/night plus tax. There are also rooms with 1 bed at a cost of $55.00/night plus tax. They have parking and are fairly close to the university -- at most a 15 minute walk. Book by January 4th.

  • Four Points by Sheraton
  • Rooms with King bed or two Queen size beds for $125 a night. Call them (888.478.4333) and mention the conference to receive this rate. They are about a 15 minute walk to campus.

  • Confederation Place Hotel (on the waterfront)
  • Only one-bed rooms: with Queen-size bed: $99.00/night; with King-size bed, $107.00 night. Toll free number 888-825-4656 (mention Inverse Systems Workshop when making reservation). Book by January 4th. About a 20-25 minute walk to the department. There is paid parking at a flat rate of $10.00/day.

  • Holiday Inn (on the waterfront)
  • Only rooms with King Size Beds (one bed) are available. The room charge here is $139.95 and again, this is within walking distance from the math department, but a walk of about 20-25 minutes. Book by January 4th.

  • Bed And Breakfasts
  • There are several in Kingston, at all different rates. Some more reasonable ones are: The Royal Albert, Abbey Manor Inn, The Secret Garden, Summer House Inn-- more expensive: Rosemount Inn, Frontenac Club Inn.
