Summer Research Project #1: The first project is to develop an interactive online assignment system for the Mathematics 1000 (Calculus I) and Mathematics 1010 (Calculus II) courses offered by the Mathematics and Statistics department at Dalhousie University. The system is expected to have the capability to generate new (random) questions for each assignment, mark the assignment solutions (multiple choice) and then give the student user the option of returning to the questions marked incorrect to see (and perhaps try to obtain) the correct answer. While working on the assignment the student may at any time refer to a "Sample Assignement" which includes detailed solutions to the sample problems.
The assignments were created using the authoring software Macromedia Director and some simple HTML. Questions about director can be directed to Professor Jason Brown

Summer Research Project #2:To check, revise, and update the MAPLE V Quick reference Guide and incorporate into the guide the essential commands required for second year calculus (MATH 2000/2001). This will include introducing the scalar operations of partial differentiation, multiple (iterated) integration and vector operations such as gradient, divergence, and curl.

Summer Research Project #3:To prepare short biographical sketches of the most important Mathematicians involved in the evolution of Calculus from early (Archimedes c.287-212 B.C.) to early mordern (Riemann 1826-1866) times and to compile a short list of the major contributors to the mathematical sciences since 1850. This information will be incorporated into the online assignment program currently being developed in Project #1.
